Avenue J
THE BRIEF
Make my mother’s storage room into a guest bedroom for me, so that when we come to visit my daughter can have her own space!
This room still needed to function for larger item storage, but be cozy enough to spend time in when we are in town.
Budget: as little as possible!

THE DESIGN
-
I learned how to install accoustic ceiling tiles!
-
Sourced a daybed frame on marketplace that (flipped upside down) provides ample storage underneath
-
Then I relied on Homesense for the soft furnishings to pull it all together.
-
curtains altered to hide the underbed storage, a king-sized quilt and pillow shams, I was able to use the excess fabric to create head-and-foot-board coverings
-
-
My mother’s painting is doing the heavy lifting, decor-wise
-
Next visit I will
-
paint
-
install a wireless sconce for bedside light
-
source a very small-and-tall side table
-
Total cost: approx $400
JUST A NOTE:
I hesitated to include this mini-project, since the result is not, um, magazine-worthy, but I think it's a good indicator of how much can be done with quite little and... I mean, imagine what I could do with a real budget!
